#TechTipTuesday – MVSD Tech Kits
Every Tuesday I share a Tech Tip on our social media pages to assist our staff in their use of technology as it relates to their role.
Before we discuss the tech kits I wanted to share about the PD Resource Centre as it is a fantastic resource being offered in MVSD. Located at the division office, the PD Resource Centre serves as the primary contact for our divisional library services. In addition to maintaining all libraries across the division, the PD Resource Centre also plays host to our divisional library that includes:
- professional development material
- curriculum documents
- curricular supports (ex: levelled readers, supporting documents, textbooks)
- class novel sets
- library books (all grade levels)
- manipulatives
- technology kits
- and more!
The materials at the PD Resource Centre are available for short- and long-term loan by any MVSD staff member and help provide options for all school programs. Prior to me joining the MVSD team, there were already several technology kits available for loan out of the PD Resource Centre. One of the goals I had this year was to not only expand what was being offered but to also make the items more accessible for staff. In addition to many fun purchases, I also worked on the following aspects to help ensure that staff felt that they could access these kits and feel confident in how they can be used in their classroom programming:
- created hard-copy supporting documents to accompany all tech kits
- this includes curricular connections, how-to guides, project ideas, and links/information on where to find further support
- created digital supporting documents to accompany all tech kits
- housed in our MVSD ICT Resources notebook (linked in the top tabs of the blog)
- includes all of the information that is available in the hard-copy supporting documents plus links to other sources, YouTube example videos, and more
- distributed information to all schools on what kits are available so that teacher’s can see what kits can support their programming plans
- both hard-copy (placed in all staff rooms) as well as digital (embedded below)
I want to send a HUGE shout-out to our finance team for assisting me in the purchasing of our new kits and to the staff at the PD Resource Centre who packaged, catalogued, and stored all of the kits.
