Why I Replaced Myself With A Machine

This afternoon I will have an opportunity to chat with the Internet for Educators class (#I4Ed) out of Brandon University. Our discussion today will build off of a shift in mindset that I experienced in 2017 while working on my M. Ed. This is a topic that I’ve been able to share a few times both with previous #I4Ed classes but also at the BYTE and Riding the Wave conferences. As we approach the one-year anniversary of a shift to remote learning; this mindset has never been more relevant for educators. It is my hope that this post will serve… Read More

Follow Friday

Every Friday I share what I believe to be a notable person/organization/school on our social media pages to assist our staff in the development of their online Personal Learning Network. Following my visit to BU earlier this week, I would like to highlight BU’s Faculty of Ed and the Internet for Ed conversation stream.      The hastag #I4Ed can be followed on Twitter while the Faculty of Ed can be found on Instagram; I invite you to follow along and join in on the discussions! Back to BU!

Brandon University will always have a very special place in my heart.  I completed my B.A & B.Ed over the course of 6 years while living and working on campus.  Following that I returned to complete my M.Ed (by distance this time).  Over the years I have welcomed any and all opportunities to return to campus to: – enjoy community presentations/events – take part in Mini-U (as a field trip with my students; highly recommend) – present in the Internet for Ed B.Ed class! (#I4Ed)      Today was one such visit!  Thank you to Mike Nantais for… Read More

2020 Presentation Schedule!

I am so excited to share that the final touches have been put onto my 2020 presentation schedule!  When I left the classroom for my second maternity leave in 2018 I set a goal for myself to get more involved in public speaking as a way to stay connected to the professional-side of my life.  This goal allowed me to work creatively on various ed tech projects and provided an avenue to deepen my understanding. Share The Love

Last week I was pleasantly surprised to receive a link to a blog post written about… me! Before I go further, I should provide some context.      Last month, I had the opportunity to present via Skype for Brandon University’s Internet for Educators class (a class which only one year ago I was a student in). I shared my experiences regarding the integration of technology into my classroom as well as the successes and challenges that have arisen from my ideas.      Mr. Nantais, the professor of the course, has all of his students maintain a blog sharing their learning… Read More

Twitter… 2 Years Later

Shortly after I began this blog in 2012 I decided to join Twitter as well. Prior to this, my only social media tool was Facebook, which I only utilized with my close friends and family. I can’t remember what exactly prompted me to try Twitter but, two years later, I am still very happy that I made the plunge!      Compared to what I had been used to with Facebook, Twitter seemed chaotic and unorganized; I felt completely lost. After some exploring and trial-and-error, however, I quickly got used to the format and became a big fan of Twitter… Read More

Internet for Ed – Summative Project

The following is the summative project I created for my Internet for Educators class. This narrative briefly summarizes some of the discussions we had throughout the course, what I believe is the most important aspect of educational technology, and an example of how to use technology with purpose. I can’t believe that the semester is already over as it seems like only last week I was sharing my thoughts on the beginning of the semester.      We almost didn’t have an Internet for Educators class as it was not originally slotted in our timetable. After some daily… Read More

Using Podcasts in the Classroom

Prior to beginning this post I had never really given podcasts much thought. Personally, I am not one to listen to the radio or music and I have difficulty understanding information if it is purely auditory. I think this has lead to my aversion of podcasts; I haven’t utilized them in the classroom much less listen to one myself. As I read through some posts by various edubloggers, and my peers from my Internet for Ed class, I began to get more and more interested.  Image Credit: http://radiofreethinker.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/podcast-cartoon.jpg First and foremost, podcasts could be a great way to meet… Read More

Internet for Ed Presentations

In our Internet for Educators class we were required, in groups, to research and present information on a specific issue or trend affecting educational technology. All together we had five presentations on various topics and, overall, I found the presentations really interesting. I’ve always commented on how group presentations really allow you to see a different side of people and understand more about their personality and our class was no different. Despite all having the same assignment, we approached it differently and ended up creating PowerPoint presentations, a Glogster, a Wiki, and filming a video!      After… Read More

App Show & Tell: Remind 101

One our projects for our Internet for Educators class is to share an app that we use regularly or that we’ve just found. The app that I’ve chosen to highlight is one of my favourites, Remind 101. I’ve actually blogged about this app previously but since that was many months before this class began, I thought that my peers may have missed out on this information. With this in mind, I thought that I would “re-share” this app as I am a big fan and definitely plan on using it again during student teaching 🙂      We don’t have… Read More
