The Experience of Social Networks

The Experience of Social Networks

On Mondays, I share a different ed tech quote on our Thompson Classroom social media pages for our staff to consider.

Ed Tech Quote – Social Networks. (2022). Uploaded by Kirsten Thompson. Available online at: www.fishbowlteaching.com

With the onset of #TweetTheHalls starting on Friday I wanted something that spoke to the fact that the connections that can be made in the online space can be immensely valuable.

Yes, X/Twitter (I continue to use Twitter/Tweet vocabulary, I can’t help it) is an example of a social network but it is so much more than just a place to share posts and find resources. I joined Twitter in 2012 and I have befriended so many educators across Manitoba who have played integral roles in my life.

I have people who I have found online that I now work with (both at MVSD and in provincial organizations).

People that I know I can rely on for assistance with a technical problem.

People who have helped me get my current position at MVSD.

People who I get to visit with in person at conferences.

People I have not yet met in real life but chat with regularly.

People who I now consider dear friends and have met my family.

This list could go on and on and I am very thankful that social networks provided a medium for our paths to cross. With EVERYTHING that is on an educator’s plate, the fact that I continue regular use of social networks over a decade later should speak to the value that can be found there. If you have not yet used X/Twitter, or have an account but have not found your experience has yet brought value, I strongly encourage you to join us for this year’s #TweetTheHalls event. This event is specifically designed for the experience!

Stay tuned as tomorrow’s post will include a tutorial on how to participate in this event.

I'd love to hear your thoughts; please leave a comment!
