WOW Wednesday – Logan Fogg

WOW Wednesday – Logan Fogg

On Wednesdays I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.

Logan, who is joined our MVSD team at the start of 2023, participated in our Summer Tech PD series in August and took in our session on Canva. While he was no stranger to the program, already experimenting with it for his personal and professional needs, we transitioned him to the PRO version and assisted with setting the stage for use with students.

I am thrilled that Logan ran with this new information and put theory into practice! I was able to join his Grade 6 students last week where we went over a whirlwind “crash course” of the platform:

  • Logan had already had his students added to a class team within his school network prior to my visit which streamlined our whole session
  • We discussed the different creation modes such as presentations, documents, fliers, etc
  • We practiced searching through the thousands of ready-to-go templates and learned how to filter our search to fine-tune our ctiteria
    • For this session, all students found an “About Me” template they liked
  • With this being a cloud-based system that saves automatically, like our Office 365 suite, we emphasized titling our files and practiced finding our projects once they’ve been saved
  • We reviewed all of the editing features built into the program so students could customize their “About Me” templates
    • We shared about the different Elements on the left-hand pane
    • Element-specific editing along the top bar
    • Photo-editing
    • App integration
  • We also discussed audience and how to share Canva creations within their class, with family/friends, and the various download and embed options

I can’t wait to see more of their great creations throughout the year!

I'd love to hear your thoughts; please leave a comment!
