Follow Friday – BYTE Conference

Follow Friday – BYTE Conference

Every Friday I share what I believe to be a notable person/organization/school on our social media pages to assist our staff in the development of their online Personal Learning Network.

Being that it is the 3rd Friday in February it can only mean one thing…. it is time for the BYTE Conference!  This conference holds a special place in my heart as it was not only the first large ed conference that I attended as a B.Ed student but it was also the start of my presentation experience.  Since that time I have been able to attend 7 of the conferences (6 years as a presenter). You can read about some of my past BYTE experiences by clicking here.

BYTE has a presence on both Twitter and Instagram and BYTE tweeps always do a good job on continuing the conversation through the #bytemb hashtag on Twitter. If you aren’t able to make it to today’s conference I recommend connecting through those links!

I will be presenting two sessions today, check it out below!

Microsoft Learning Tools

If you design things for the greatest access – Learning Tools is like that – it makes everything accessible to all, and why wouldn’t we want that?” This session introduces the suite of accessibility tools built into the Microsoft Office 365 suite. Conversation will center on the general features of the platform that increase accessibility for all users, reading supports, and writing supports; including Immersive Reader and Dictate. Microsoft certification available for all participants.”

Social Media for Educators

“The story of your school/classroom is being told; are you a part of the narrative?” Effective communication and transparency in education allows for the development of stronger school/stakeholder relationships, increases community engagement, and increases educational opportunities for students. This session would be divided into informational and hands-on components which would share information on social media use in Canada, how to use accounts for school & classroom use, and provide opportunities for participants to explore platforms and set up accounts.
