WOW Wednesday – Goose Lake High Grade 10

On Wednesdays, I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Every day our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.

Today I had an opportunity to partner with the Grade 10 educators at Goose Lake High to put on a National Robotics Week event! I am always so thankful when I have an opportunity to spend my day in classrooms and this was no exception. Through several periods through the day, we were able to cycle through their full Grade 10 cohort of students via their science classes. This event included both hands-on and virtual options for students to explore different elements of robotics while introducing both students and staff to some of the resources that are available throughout the year. In groups of 2-4, students spent a total of 30mins at each of the two stations below:

VEX VR Robotics Playground

This approach to robotics only requires an internet connection and a device (laptop, tablet, etc). The VEX VR robotics playground allows users to program virtual robots through a variety of fun challenges including:

  • Castle Crashers
  • Art Canvas
  • Encoded Message
  • Wall Maze
  • and more! (there are 15 challenges to explore)
  • there are also paid playgrounds that can be accessed through a premium account
