WOW Wednesday – Henderson Elementary

WOW Wednesday – Henderson Elementary

On Wednesdays I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.

Right now if you walk into Henderson Elementary the first thing you will see is technology in the form of a beautiful welcome station featuring a large-screen display and speakers. This display showcases a variety of information including:

  • welcome messages
  • photo introductions of building staff
  • announcements
  • student highlights
  • student and caregiver educational tips

This is a great way to welcome guests to the building and integrates tech in a way that:

  • is accessible for all users
    • HES has students who are emergent readers, families whose home-language is other than English, and many other accessibility considerations. The inclusion of speakers increases accessibility to information
  • allows for display of digital student artifacts
    • schools are FULL of bulletin boards to showcase student work and it is often challenging to show off the digital work that students complete
  • showcases digital school supports
    • this display can showcase the school website, associated social media sites, school SeeSaw information, etc
  • is environmentally friendly
    • a bulletin board of information would require monthly or seasonally-printed displays to switch out
