#TechTipTuesday – Disinfect Your Tech

Every Tuesday I share a Tech Tip on our social media pages to assist our staff in their use of technology as it relates to their role. As January is recognized as Clean Up Your Computer Month and, with so much more of our practice being digital during remote learning, all of this month’s tips will be dedicated to this topic!

Here in Manitoba we are one week into our return of in-person learning and our classrooms are the busiest they have been in 2022, while navigating the current wave of the pandemic. One strategy in increasing the overall health and safety of staff/students includes the disinfection of high-touch areas; devices included.

But how do we disinfect technology in a way that is effective but does not damage or compromise the equipment?

What is a shared device?

In MVSD, we consider any digital device that is used by multiple-users to be a shared device. Whenever possible we are trying to organize our devices in such a way that they are not used by multiple cohorts of students/staff but, depending on the building, we will have instances of multiple cohorts sharing the same digital devices (similar to how all multiple cohorts all use the library, playground equipment, etc). Our shared devices include:

  • laptops/netbooks
  • desktops
  • tablets
  • photocopiers/printers
  • interactive white boards
  • specialized equipment

Public Outreach

In an effort to improve transparency between the division and our stakeholders the following video was also prepared to communicate how MVSD is disinfecting devices; it also shares some helpful tips on how to disinfect your personal devices at home.

I'd love to hear your thoughts; please leave a comment!
