WOW Wednesday – Smith Jackson Staff

Every Wednesday I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.

In September of 2020, the staff of Smith-Jackson Ukrainian Bilingual School decided to move forward with a Seesaw for Schools subscription for their students. The use of Seesaw as an LMS was incorporated in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to allow for:

  • consistent access to programming in the event students, cohorts, and/or staff could not be in the building face-to-face
  • an opportunity for virtual family/community engagement since guests are not able to visit our schools in person
  • the creation of digital student portfolios to integrate digital literacy across the curriculum

Through the school year, SJ staff and students have maintained the use of Seesaw through face-to-face and remote classes and it has become a standard routine. The stats in the image speak for themselves, the use of Seesaw has met all of the goals outlined above. I think they are even more impressive when you take into account that their school enrollment is only 68 students!

Great job SJ; your dedication has helped ensure a smoother transition through the many changes this year!
