My first week of student teaching is officially completed and I feel like I can now settle into a regular routine with my students. Two things I think went really well this week were: 1 ) Getting To Know My Students – As I shared on Wednesday, I used my first teaching day to get to know my students. Through the activities that I facilitated, I feel like I was able to get a good understanding of my students likes, routines and learning needs. – I know that this is no replacement for the knowledge that… Read More
Back to Teaching
Today was my first day actually introducing my lessons and taking over three of my four classes during student teaching. (I will continue to observe Grade 9/10 ICT until after Spring Break to accommodate my cooperating teacher’s unit plans). I am so thrilled to be back in the classroom and doing what I love. I find the transition from classroom teacher to student teacher to sometimes be quite choppy and awkward so I always plan my first day as a “get to know each other” day. If you remember back to my student teaching placement in the fall, I like… Read More
Back to Student Teaching!
Today marked my first day back to student teaching at “S-School”! This is my LAST student teaching placement before graduation and, as of May 4th, I will have officially completed all of my requirements for graduation! Last Tuesday was my last day of on-campus classes and I am so excited that I get to spend the last 8 weeks of my university career in the classroom doing what I love 🙂 Here is a glimpse at my schedule: I am actually back with two of my previous cooperating teachers as well as a new cooperating teacher… Read More
Student Teaching Schedule
Today was the first day of school for student’s in our school and it was a busy one! During the first 3 periods of the first day of school, our entire school does a “trial run” of a full day’s schedule so I met all 125-ish of my Cooperating Teacher’s students in about an hour! To say it was a bit overwhelming would be an understatement but it definitely was interesting to see how our school began their first day with students. I also had my schedule change THREE times today… which makes that a total of FIVE… Read More
Substitute Teaching in "T-Division" 4
Last Friday I was very fortunate to be called in to substitute teach in “T-Division” again! If you missed some of my earlier posts I am working full-time with Children’s disABILITY Services this summer but I asked for every Friday off so I could still have opportunities to substitute teach and network within the school divisions in our area. In our area, school is done this week so I knew that Friday would be my last time to substitute teach this year and I am really happy I was able to get one last day before school is out.… Read More
Substituting in "T-Division" 3
On Friday I was able to have another substitute teaching day in “T-Division”! I have already had some experience with the division as I was able to substitute teach in an English classroom and in a Grade 2/3 classroom in their French Immersion school a few weeks ago. This time, however, I was in a K-12 school only about 15 minutes from our house. I was so excited because this is a school that I might be applying for a job in next spring! (I have actually even applied to do one of my student teaching placements in this school… Read More
Substituting in "T-Division" 2
Yesterday I was very happy to be substituting in “T-Division” again. I was actually able to be in the same small school as I was in on Tuesday, only this time I was in a Grade 2/3 split class of 10 students. After my substituting experience on Tuesday, @MsBarteaux shared with me that when she was working as a substitute she would take photographs, with permission, of all the things she loved in a classroom to keep for future reference. I thought this was a wonderful idea! I mean, in the past I would take note of things that… Read More
Substituting in "T-Division"
Its been a week and a half since I left “C-School” and I’ve been missing the classroom so much! Thank goodness I got called in to substitute teach in “T-Division” for today and Thursday. I had never been to the town before so, like I always do, I left waaayyy too early in an attempt to give myself enough time to find my way around. Fortunately I was only 20 minutes early this time and not 30+ like when I visited “C-School“. The school is a French-immersion school but fortunately I was substituting for the English teacher; which… Read More
Summer Holidays & Substitute Teaching!
Friday was not only my last day of student teaching at “C-School” but it was also my last day of university for this year! We finished up our classes and wrote our final exams at the beginning of March so now that our placements are done we do not return to school until the first week of September. Although I will miss the Grade 5s very much I am already excited about what is to come. I can not believe that I only have ONE more year of school before I can begin applying for teaching positions. All together… Read More
