In July I shared with you the first official pictures of my classroom. Since then I haven’t done too much in regards to decorating, as I’ve been more focused on my curriculum planning, but I did spend an entire day their today! While I did begin to rearrange some furniture (I’m still playing with layouts) my primary focus was the GIGANTIC bookcase that was previously blocking the rooms bulletin boards. *Before*This bookcase was screwed into the wall, the floor, and covered all of the bulletin boards in my room! *After*The bookcase is now dismantled & my bulletin boards havebeen freed! ———————————————————————————-… Read More
Classroom *Before* Pictures
If you follow me on Twitter you know that yesterday was a super exciting day for me as I received my keys and could get into my classroom for the very first time! Now this classroom wasn’t completely new to me as I completed my last two student teaching placements at “S-School” and had been in that classroom multiple times. In fact, the teacher that was in this room before helped me out TREMENDOUSLY in regards to planning resources and support! Got my classroom keys! So excited 🙂 This was the first time, however, that I… Read More
Blog, Website, or Both?
Our school year begins in less than two months and I am spending this summer trying to get as organized as possible. In addition to the million-and-one things that are required of teachers, I know that I want to have my students blogging as well as have a classroom website. I have two science classes, Grade 7 & Grade 8, who I want to start blogging projects with. These are two of my smaller classes as I am nervous that I will get too overwhelmed if I tried to get ALL 7 of my different subject-area… Read More
School Clothing is Here!
In May, “S-School’s” student council organized an event where you could order school clothing for the upcoming year. Being a small school, they only offer this event every three years and I was really excited that I was subbing in the school when they were holding it! It is a pretty exciting feeling to have school clothing that not only says “Staff” on the sleeve but also my new name on the back (our wedding is in only 9 days and then I will no longer be “Miss L”) The school clothing is officially in and I can’t wait to… Read More
Let The Prepping Begin!
Last week I shared some of the awesome resources that I had found for one of the classes I was prepping for: Grade 7 Science. As of last week, this was the only class that I had started my prep work for as I was still waiting for my final teaching schedule to be solidified. Well the wait is now over, as I picked up my official schedule yesterday after school! Just a few of the many resources I have available to start prepping! I am happy to announce that I will be the Grade 8… Read More
Roller Coaster Week
Trying my best to look like I’m NOT sick! It may only be Wednesday but this week has been a crazy roller coaster for me so far. On Monday I was set to interview at “S-School” and, of course, I woke up with a fever of 101 and sick to my stomach! Even though I wasn’t feeling good there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity so I went into school and interviewed. I was very happy to be interviewing right at “S-School” which made me feel more comfortable since I’ve been student teaching at the school… Read More
The Dust Bowl… by Wikipedia

My students were responsible for finding some type of media (photo or video), creating some type of artifact and completing a written report. Here is how their project was set up. The Job Hunt is On!
Last week I was approached by the principal at “S-School” who let me know that two jobs were being posted in the school! I was so excited when I went into the staff room and saw these hanging on the bulletin board. Here is what the two jobs are posted as: – Grade 7-10 Science and Social Studies Teacher, Full Time Permanent – Family Studies and Resource Teacher, Full Time Permanent After spending both my third and fourth student teaching placements at “S-School” I’ve grown to love the students, staff, and learning environment that is present. I am so excited that there… Read More
2 Stars & A Wish: Finishing on Time
My fifth week of student teaching is all finished up which means that I officially have two weeks left to wrap up my units and complete final assessments with my students! A reoccurring theme during this placement has definitely been a lack of time and this week was no exception. This week we only had a four-day week because of a division-wide PD day on Friday and on Thursday our high school students were away at a local career fair. Unfortunately, this meant that I really only had three teaching days instead of the five that I would… Read More
Dr. Kathie Nunley Part 2: Layered Curriculum
*The following is Part 2 of a two-part reflection on a PD session I attended by Dr. Kathie Nunley. Part 1 of this reflection on, A Student’s Brain, can be found by following the highlighted link. Layered Curriculum, developed by Dr. Kathie Nunley, is an instructional method based specifically on her work with neuroscience and how the adolescent brain functions. It is developed as a means to effectively meet the needs of the adolescent learner by taking into account how the brain processes information and reacts to various stimuli. One very important factor in this method… Read More
