Back in May I shared some of my planning that I had done for my Interactions with Ecosystems unit for my Grade 7 Science class. While the planning has continued, I realized today that I haven’t shared anything more through the blog. The Grade 7 Science curriculum consists of four different units so I thought that I would simply go in order and share the next unit’s resources: The Earth’s Crust. The Dynamic Earth Smithsonian Interactive. (2013). Uploaded by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Available online at: http://www.mnh.si.edu/earth/main_frames.html I actually had a difficult time planning… Read More
Resources To Start Off Your Week 70
It is hard to believe that school is going to be starting again in LESS than two months. For my American followers, you are going to be back even sooner! Summer always seemed to be so long and now that I am planning for my own classroom there definitely doesn’t seem to be enough time! As I’m prepping, I’m still finding a lot of resources for the classroom and it lends itself well to sharing through my blog. As always, I will be adding these to my lists of resources under the Fav Websites page! 1 ) Commonsense… Read More
Mad Science 2
As you may know, I will be teaching both Grade 7 & Grade 8 science in the upcoming school year. As I work my way through my planning for the year I am consistently working towards making my lessons relevant and meaningful for the students in my classroom. It is important to me that my students get excited about what they are learning and can be self-motivated when it comes to experiments and research projects. As such, I have been looking for new and interesting ways to introduce information to my students as well as resources to engage… Read More
300 Follower Giveaway!!
The last three months have included a lot of personal milestones for me including: – Obtaining my 1st teaching job – Graduating with my Bachelor of Education Degree – Being appointed to the ManACE Board – Getting married I realize that, at times, this has meant that my blogging frequency has dropped and/or been a bit sporadic. I promise that this is not permanent, however, and will be back into a regular routine again starting TODAY! In fact, the past few weeks specifically have also marked some exciting blogging milestones as well! I am so happy… Read More
My Thoughts On Feedly
I only started using Google Reader in January of 2012; I was in my first year in the Faculty of Education when I was introduced to it in one of our program’s ICT courses. At first, I hadn’t really recognized the value of the service as I really only used my computer for social media, email, and school research (no seriously, that’s ALL I used it for!). After beginning my blogging adventure, however, I was quickly addicted to the site as it was so easy to organize and keep track of the 200+ sites I began following on… Read More
Resources To Start Off Your Week 69: Canada Day Edition!
I realize that it is no longer the start of the week nor Canada Day… but I was distracted with the post-wedding craziness and didn’t quite get back to blogging as fast as I had originally planned. For all of my fellow Canucks out there, Happy (belated) Canada Day! For all of my followers from outside of Canada, hopefully you find these resources interesting, helpful, and fun 🙂 As always, I will be adding these to my lists of resources under the Fav Websites heading at the top of the page. Some Canadian pride! (I’m front row, on… Read More
Summer #EdTech To-Do List
I recently read a post by Anthony VonBank over at his blog, Clouducation, in which he shared some of his #EdTech suggestions for summer. Since I am an #EdTech lover, my Twitter-Tried-It Challenge is still going on, and I’m now on the ManACE Board, I thought it was a perfect fit for me to create my own #EdTech To-Do List too! (Big thanks to Anthony for the inspiration!) Technology is a given. (2013). Uploaded by Scott McLeod to Flickr. Resources To Start Off Your Week 68
The Twitter-Tried-It Challenge has been in place for over a week now and while I haven’t gotten a big participation level on the blog, I am hoping that a lot of people are individually participating in their own ways. Right before the weeked I shared the great resources by the mRLC and tweeted it out so hopefully that inspires a few people to try it out! I know that a lot of my American followers are officially on their summer holidays (lucky ducks) so I wanted to share another resource that is perfect for the holidays and could… Read More
mRLC Backwards-By-Design Planning
If you are a teacher in Manitoba who is also utilizing backwards-by-design planning then you definitely need to check out the resources available through the Manitoba Rural Learning Consortium (mRLC). My principal shared this with us this week and I am so glad she did because it is going to save me a lot of work in my planning! The backwards-by-design method of planning (sometimes called understanding-by-design, backwards planning, or planning with the end in mind) involves planning out the “big ideas” or main goals for a topic first, then selecting the best assessment options, and finally determing instructional methods… Read More
Resources To Start Off Your Week 67
Today I was back substitute teaching in “S-School” & their student council had a big display advertising, “Only 10 Days To Study Before Exams!” It is hard to believe that the school year is almost over. While it can be easy to start going into summer mode I think that there is still time to try something new and make the last few days of school different. My Twitter-Tried-It Challenge is still underway and I think this is a great time to implement something new in our classrooms. Maybe it’s a new activity to review before exams,… Read More
