This week we had the opportunity to Skype with Clarence Fisher from Snowlake, Manitoba. I was especially looking forward to this presentation because I have followed Clarence’s work on his blog for a little under a year and it was exciting to know that I would be able to put a “face to the blog”! Now this wasn’t the longest presentation our class has had (we only had about 30 minutes to connect with Clarence as he was tuning in during one of his prep periods while his class was in Phys-Ed) but it got me thinking about… Read More
#ETMOOC Digital Storytelling
The #ETMOOC community is currently discussing Digital Storytelling and I couldn’t be more pleased because I recently attended a PD session on Digital Storytelling and also have a university assignment due this week in which I have to create a digital story! Perfect? I think so π Don’t You Love It When Things Work Out?? There was several different projects to undertake in this topic depending on your familiarity with digital stories, your interests and your time commitment! There included reflective blogging about digital storytelling, creating animated GIFS, creating a digital story, creating a 6-word story,… Read More
Infographics in the Classroom
I’m going to start this post by admitting that I absolutely love infographics! I find them more engaging than paragraphs of text and I love seeing the information visually displayed in an aesthetic manner, which is interesting because I don’t consider myself a visual learner. If you aren’t familiar with infographics here is an explanatory image: Image Credit: Infographics. (2013). CC-BY-SA. http://infographicsineducation.wikispaces.com/ I believe that, likes memes and trending YouTube videos, infographics can be a great way of presenting information through a platform that students are familiar with. One only needs to type in the word, “Infographic” into Google… Read More
Whose Job Is It Anyways?
ββ¦These fall more under the purview of the resource teacher. My focus is on the content material as I am a secondary teacher.β[1]Whose responsibility is it when a Senior Years student is unable to comprehend the material presented in his or her content area courses? Upon reaching Secondary School, there is a more predominant release of responsibility onto our students. More often than not, they are expected to take appropriate notes, read/watch assigned material in preparation for class, study independently and ask for help is they believe they need it. What happens, however, if our students are unable to comprehend… Read More
You Are What You Tweet!

Resources To Start Off Your Week 52
This week I was inspired by some of the speakers I heard during my Internet for Educators class and #etmooc conversations. There are so many amazing resources available online but it is important to be teaching our students to “Not Steal From the Internet” and to use information appropriately. These resources can help teachers and students to use resources appropriately within the framework of schools and providing proper attribution when applicable. As always, I will be adding these to my lists of resources under the Fav Websites heading. 1 ) Terms of Service; Didn’t Read– Are you like… Read More
#ETMOOC Lip Dub Completed Project
Last week I posted about the Lip Dub project being completed by the #ETMOOC community and it is now finished! There were three people at our university participating in this part of #ETMOOC so we decided to do a clip together to showcase our university’s group. We are officially featured at 1:05 in the bottom right hand corner π Great job everyone!
John Finch: Hot Topic Issues
This week we had the opportunity to have John Finch physically visit our classroom to discuss various issues in educational technology. I found that I am more engaged during a face-to-face visit so I really enjoyed myself. Now don’t get me wrong, I think tools like Skype are amazing for connecting people and removing the distance barrier but I personally still prefer the face-to-face interaction if possible! After having multiple presenters discuss the benefits of technology in education, PLNs and becoming connected educators, it was nice to discuss some of the issues that are arising from this. … Read More
February Currently
It is February! That means that I have only ONE MONTH left in my university classes! (After 6 years I can’t believe that I am actually saying this) We start our last student teaching placements in March and then will be graduating in May! I am so excited about the idea of having my own classroom and starting a new chapter of my life but I will honestly miss university as well. My fiance and I have both worked at the university for the entire time we have been enrolled and have loved the atmosphere on campus, it… Read More
David Roberston Author Study
This week we are creating author studies in my English Language Arts Methods class and I chose David Roberston. I had previously used David’s work in the Aboriginal Resources Curriculum Portfolio I created with my fiance, so it was nice to revisit his work and learn more! David is an Aboriginal author living and working in Winnipeg, Manitoba so it is awesome to be able to feature material that is locally relevant. His graphic novels feature intense plot lines and provide an engaging platform for students (especially those who struggle or dislike reading traditional forms of… Read More
