WOW Wednesday – Emma Rathgeber
On Wednesdays, I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Every day our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.
This week I would like to highlight Emma Rathgeber from Roblin Elementary School. In 2023 Emma, and the RES team, participated in our 5th annual Hour of Code event during Computer Science Education week. This event serves a variety of roles (see the previous link to learn more) but one of my goals in facilitation of the event is that it will serve as a model for staff to then hold their own events in the future. This is exactly what Emma did this year and I couldn’t be more thrilled!
Emma worked with myself and our PD Resource Center to loan out a variety of Tech Kits that she brought back to her Grade 3/4 students at RES. The kits provided a new avenue for students to strengthen their computational thinking skills through cross-curricular integration. Students had an opportunity to work on elements of coding, engineering, and numeracy through the following kits:
- Snap Circuits
- Code & Go Mouse
- Osmo
I greatly appreciate Emma’s desire to keep this event going for her students and love to see our Tech Kits in action! Next week will play host to the 2024 Computer Science Education Week so stay tuned for more updates.
