WOW Wednesday – MVSD Staff

WOW Wednesday – MVSD Staff

On Wednesdays, I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Every day our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.

It is the first day of school with students and we are running at full capacity across the division! Naturally, our first WOW Wednesday has to highlight ALL of our divisional staff. When it comes to the world of ed tech, a big change that affects all of our staff from K-12 is in response to an August 15th news announcement from Manitoba Gov. The full article can be read HERE but includes the following:

  • banning cellphone use during school hours, including lunch and breaks, for students in kindergarten to Grade 8;
  • banning cellphone use for students in grades 9 to 12 during class time, with cellphone use permitted during breaks and lunch; and
  • clear direction for cellphone use in classrooms for school staff.

While every division continues to have the local autonomy to fine-tune this information to their context, this baseline is something that is different for many. Regardless of where they work, we recognize that our staff is working to not only communicate their local changes to students and community but also be more purposeful and transparent about their own device use.

If you are interested in learning more about how MVSD is approaching this topic, we have put together a new WEBPAGE that:

  • outlines our procedure
  • addresses frequently asked questions
  • shows the signage that students and adults will see in our buildings
  • provides supports for caregivers

I'd love to hear your thoughts; please leave a comment!
