WOW Wednesday – Laura Joss
On Wednesdays I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.
This week I am excited to showcase Laura Joss from Ochre River School. Laura, who would self-identify as “not techy”, actually models an excellent integration of purposeful technology at the K-2 level. One example of this is their use of the Learning A to Z (RAZ Kids) platform. This program is one tool in their traditional literacy programming but Laura also maintains an Instagram page to model digital literacy skills for students and community members.
This page not only provides a window for the Ochre-community families but it allows for conversations regarding digital citizenship, privacy, and digital footprint. One fun example of digital footprint happened recently when Ochre students found themselves highlighted on the Learning A to Z instagram page (see embedded further down in this post). This experience is a great opportunity to discuss:
- sharing online: what should you share? when? where? who can see?
- digital citizenship: they reached out to ask permission before sharing, tagging the original account
For the kids, they loved their chance to be “famous”!
