Throwback to BU!

Throwback to BU!

I am very excited to share that tomorrow I will be back at Brandon University (BU) taking part in their pre-service professional development series through the Faculty of Ed. BU holds a special place in my heart as I not only hold my B.A, B.Ed, and M.Ed from here but I also lived and worked on campus for five years from 2007-2012.

This will be my 5th formal presentation at BU with previous guest speaking roles taking place as part of the Internet for Ed (#I4Ed) B.Ed class, formally taught by Mike Nantais. I took a quick trip down memory lane on Twitter to these previous visits:

On the docket for tomorrow I will have two sessions running from 9:00-11:30 and 1:00-3:30 with approximately 30 attendees in both sessions. We will be working on the topic of social media in an updated version of a presentation I have done multiple times entitled, “Social Media 4 Educators”. This was also my topic of focus for my M.Ed work so I am very pleased to be able to share this information with a new group of preservice educators. This is a HUGE topic with many different components so, given the general audience I have chosen to focus on two introductory concepts:

  • Understand the role social media plays in Canadian society and think broadly about how it can be used within your educational practice in an effective and appropriate manner
  • Evaluate what social media platform(s) would be best for your needs and be provided with some tips/tricks to make use run as smoothly as possible

I’ll post slides and resources tomorrow for those interested in learning along with us!

I'd love to hear your thoughts; please leave a comment!
