WOW Wednesday – Troy Hampson
On Wednesdays I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.
This week I’d like to highlight Troy Hampson who leads the Industrial Arts program that is based out of Winnipegosis Elementary. Troy, an educator and Red Seal Machinist, has been with MVSD since 2021 and delivers programming to students from both Winnipegosis schools as well as to students from Ethelbert. During a recent school visit I had an opportunity to chat with Troy and see some of the digital tools he is using in his programming. While a lot of traditional programs focus only on hands-on tools, Troy builds in a large variety of tools that require students to digitally design and then program their work before it is uploaded to the machine:
- CNC
- water jet cutter
- 3D printer
- vinyl cutter
When it comes to digital programs, he recommended the software available through Autodesk as a starting point (which can be accessed for FREE by educators).
