WOW Wednesday – MMS eSports Team
On Wednesdays I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.
Did you know?? Manitoba serves as a national leader in the area of esport (online gaming) with competitive leagues starting for learners in Grade 6-12.
Esports not only provide additional extracurricular options to learners but they assist in the development of skills in the areas of:
– global competencies in the “5Cs”
– cross-curricular STEM content
– social-emotional learning
– community
– career planning

This week I want to highlight the team at Mackenzie Middle School as they embark on a vision to implement esports into their formal programming for the 2022/23 school year. This journey has seen the team:
- participate in the April esports Q & A with Melissa Burns hosted by #MBEdChat on Twitter
- work through the trove of resources available through the Middle Years Esports Manitoba Educators Hub
- invest in Nintendo Switch consoles
I am so excited to see this project take flight in the fall and will be sure to share updates as we navigate this new journey together!
