WOW Wednesday – Barker Elementary

WOW Wednesday – Barker Elementary

On Wednesdays I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.

Barker Elementary is no stranger to our WOW Wednesday series as they are a leader in the division when it comes to staff collaboration to benefit student learning. They have utilized technology to:

  • digitally compile school data in their month-end reports
  • host virtual school assemblies when faced with Covid-19 restrictions
  • implement digital bookings for families during parent-teacher interviews
  • record and distribute video programming during class suspensions
  • create their own apps to share and communicate with their families
  • develop a social media presence to share with others

Their most recent staff project is in response to our plan to transition teaching and support staff from school-based serves to cloud-based file storage in the fall of 2022. This follows our students who moved to this system in the fall of 2021. In preparation of this plan, the staff at Barker have committed to using their scheduled PLC times to receive training and support in the use of our cloud-based storage system, OneDrive.

Over the course of 3 weeks we will work together to:

  • familiarize staff with the program
  • practice navigation and feature functions
  • establish personal drives
  • establish and collaborate within shared drives

This is also the perfect time to discuss digital file storage in general and “clean up your computer”. Some of my favourite tips for this can be found in this POST.

I have no doubt this team will be completely prepared as we make this transition! Thank you for having me support you in this plan.

I'd love to hear your thoughts; please leave a comment!
