WOW Wednesday – BLP MOOC Staff Participation

Every Wednesday I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.

4 reasons to consider, from one teacher to another
By Myla Krauskopf at Winnipegosis Collegiate.
1. Using online tools with our students is part of the new teaching reality. Like it or not. So, we can choose to ignore it and hope it does away, or try to educate outselves.
2. MOOC stands for massive open online course. That means its free and there is nothing lost (except your own learning opportunity) if you don't complete it. So, een if you aren't sure you have the time or aren't sure if will find the MOOC helpful - it can't hurt to try it.
3. It really is practical. The course begins by explaining the rand of blended learning options - which helped me understand my options. It then asks you, at each step, to apply what you are learning to your own classroom. So when you are done you have ideas that you can apply tomorrow.
4. A certificate is available if you complete all required exercises and quizzes. So your hard work is documented.

This week, Myla Krauskopf from Winnipegosis Collegiate has teamed up with myself to provide further information about the Blended Learning Practice (BLP) MOOC that is starting up another round on January 16, 2022. The infographic, shared above, was prepared by Myla and shared out via our social media accounts to help provide context for other educators who may be considering this certification. Completed in the summer of 2020, alongside myself, Myla has been able to integrate elements of the BLP MOOC into her teaching practice over the course of the last 1.5 school years.

Thank you Myla for sharing your review and being a leader for our staff in this area!

This four-week, FREE, course is accessible and provides practical supports for K-12 educators (and planning teams). I enjoyed this course quite a bit and have shared their open textbook regularly with our staff as we work on designing blended learning experiences for our students. The next round starts up on January 16th and you can register HERE.
