Follow Friday – Code.org
Every Friday I share what I believe to be a notable person/organization/school on our social media pages to assist our staff in the development of their online Personal Learning Network.
Monday kicks off Computer Science Education Week which runs from December 6-10th, 2021. This event is an international movement designed to introduce students to the field of computer science, strengthen computational thinking and encourage creativity in the digital space.
One way to introduce Computer Science Education Week is through an Hour of Code event!
“The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event or try any of the over 500+ one-hour tutorials, available in over 45 languages.“

Code.org provides coding activities for all levels of students from emerging readers who are trying coding for the first time to experienced coders familiar with programming languages.
Educators do not need to have any prior experience and, because they are web-based, there are no required software downloads.
In February of 2020 I had an opportunity to present at BYTE about my experience hosting the first large-scale Hour of Code events in MVSD. My presentation is included below:
