WOW Wednesday – Sheila Giasson
Every Wednesday I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.
One of our programs that continues to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic has been our divisional preschool program. Prior to spring of 2020, this program saw community members and their young families visit our school buildings to participate in in-person, hands-on preschool activities as part of our Kindergarten-readiness initiative. Given the ongoing public health restrictions we have not yet been able to welcome community members back into our buildings in this way. Furthermore, many of the spaces that were previously used for the preschool activities have now been changed into classrooms to accommodate the distancing requirements in K-12 spaces.
In an effort to adapt to the current environment our preschool coordinator, Sheila, has decided to move the preschool program online! This huge initiative has seen her:
- learn Microsoft Forms to arrange virtual registrations
- familiarize herself with the video production kits available through our PD Resource Center (including green screens, lighting kits, and sound systems)
- practice effective video framing, room acoustics, and filming
- evaluate video editing options
- review digital copyright legislation
- learn about cloud-based file storage and sharing settings for secure content distribution
- and much more!
The program is now accepting registrations and I can’t wait to see how she makes out; great work Sheila!
