WOW Wednesday – Chelsea Hockridge
Every Wednesday I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.
Chelsea is no stranger to this blog . As a fellow ed-tech advocate her and I have worked collaboratively on projects together as we completed our M.Ed, she participated in our 2020 social media takeover with a feature on Minecraft, and she has been highlighted in a WOW Wednesday post previously.
She has now taken on a new adventure as our divisional literacy coach and I couldn’t be more thrilled! When it comes to the connection between ICT and literacy, Chelsea is the perfect resource to discuss:
Literacy-based Tablet Apps
Our divisional tablets (we run both iPads and Samsung) have a dedicated folder devoted to literacy-focused apps. These apps are reviewed by our Coordinator of Curriculum & Assessment, divisional clinicians and, now, Chelsea! This process was put in place to assist staff in their use of technology as they can access these devices and know that there are programs that:
– are age/subject appropriate
– are aligned with MB curriculum
– elevate student learning and encourage deep thinking
If you have any questions about literacy-focused apps you can reach out to Chelsea directly!
Reading Progress in Teams
This summer, Microsoft launched a new tool as part of the existing suite of Teams-based tools: Reading Progress. Divisionally, we use Teams through both middle school and high school so this can be the perfect addition to the literacy programming at those levels!

Chelsea has worked with this tool and can provide training in the use of this program.
