Happy New Year!
I don’t care what anyway says, back-to-school season is the new year for teachers!
I took a conscious step back from this blog in June of 2021 while I was reporting from home in the spring to align with my mental health needs during the end of Manitoba’s third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. As summer break started I made the decision, for the first time in my teaching career, to NOT participate in any type of education- or technology-related professional development. This was partly in response to the need to recharge after the school year but also in preparation for what I knew would be a busy fall season. With that being said, it does not mean that the summer wasn’t busy, as I explored some new outlets including:
- Half-marathon training (officially at 27 completed 1/2 marathons this year)
- Raising laying chickens (we have 4 that I tend to with my children)
- Learning how to play golf (my 6 year old is better than me)
- Music (I play the piano and tenor saxophone)
With some new skills under my belt and a fresh mindset I am officially ready for the 2021/22 school year!
While our staff are not officially back until next week I have been busily preparing for the school year, starting with a full week of technology-based professional development sessions for our staff. These sessions ran from August 24-27 and covered a variety of topics for both beginner and veteran staff of all divisional positions.
This week is full of planning meetings with various stakeholders and I will also be focusing on support staff with their Back to School checklist (stay tuned for more details)!
