I’m Vaccinated!
Today was a very exciting day as I received my first round of the Pfizer vaccine for the prevention of Covid-19! I was the last adult in our family to receive my dose as everyone else became eligible before me due to their age or status as a first-responder.
When I moved into this position I received advice from many long-time administrators & coaches about the importance of being visible and available.
- “Set up shop for the day in the school library, auditorium, or cafeteria”
- “Do walking tours of each school regularly”
- “Participate in school spirit events, attend productions/sporting events/etc”
In my first year I tried to act on this advice and visit schools as much as I could. I maintain a record of these visits and when I look back I averaged around 12 school visits each month. These visits included formal PD with staff and classroom presentations but also just “hang out time” where I was available to observe and assist as needed.
This year, in response to Covid-19, we have emphasized a transition to remote visits as much as possible. As a result, I now get to visit schools about 3-5 times a month. These visits are often a quick “in and out” with no other classroom visits to prevent crossing cohorts. While necessary for the safety of all our students and staff, this system does not allow for organic coaching and is much more reactive rather than proactive.
Fingers crossed that receiving my vaccine today is one step closer to getting back to a system where I can be with all my MVSD family again!
