WOW Wednesday – DRCSS Staff

Every Wednesday I highlight some of our amazing MVSD staff on our social media pages. Everyday our staff are using tech in new and exciting ways, are learning new skills, and are sharing ways in which ed tech is assisting them in their practice.

WOW Wednesday, drcss staff have compiled hours of pre-recorded lessons for students engaged in a blended schedule

As we’ve adapted to the ever-changing teaching environments available to us during the Covid-19 pandemic, an emphasis on physical distance has been essential. In order to make this happen our largest high school, Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School, has operated on a blended schedule this year. This sees students attend two days a week on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday setup with Fridays being designated for appointments with teachers, vocational programming, or labs. To learn more about this schedule you can check out the documentation available on their website HERE.

In a response to this blended schedule, many of the DRCSS staff have transitioned to creating pre-recorded content for their students. This content is utilized in multiple ways:

  • posted on Teams for viewing during off-campus days
  • accessible for student review during independent scheduling
  • shared in class while teachers deliver small-group instruction

The creation of this content has required the teaching staff to mix media and try new tools; which they have jumped in and ran with! The videos that are available include the use of specialized acoustics, picture-&-picture viewing, OneNote integration, Smart Notebook, and various presentation softwares. This content is either filmed directly, or uploaded, into our Microsoft Stream program which allows for:

  • secure storage
  • seemless sharing with Office 365, including Teams
  • access to accessibility tools like transcripts

Great job to everyone involved!
