#TechTipTuesday – Fair Dealing Week

#TechTipTuesday – Fair Dealing Week

Every Tuesday I share a Tech Tip on our social media pages to assist our staff in their use of technology as it relates to their role. With February 22-26th playing host to Fair Dealing Week, all of the posts this week will align with that theme.

Teach Tip Tuesday, fair dealing week, did you know there is a dedicated copyright page in the mvsd ict resources notebook? tools, informational videos, student supports and more

The MVSD ICT Resources Notebook is linked for public access at the top of this blog, but here are some of my favourite resources that I’ve pulled for review:

Fair Dealing Decision Tool

As described by Manitoba Teachers’ Society:

“The Copyright Consortium of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) have begun a campaign to raise awareness among the K-12 teachers regarding copyright in Canada.

The consortium has been concerned that teachers are unsure of what types of material they can use in their classrooms and what falls under the umbrella of “fair dealing.”

The focus of the campaign is the promotion of CopyrightDecisionTool.ca, a website that will help teachers understand copyright as it pertains to education.

The website will help teachers decide whether fair dealing permits classroom use of print materials, artistic work or audiovisual materials without getting copyright permission.”

Copyright Information Playlist on YouTube

A selection of videos pulled from various YouTube channels that can be used for staff and student use.

Creative Commons Search

This tool allows you, and your students, to search for free content in the public domain that is under creative commons licensing.  This database compiles copyright appropriate material from the web’s major search engines and includes images, clipart, music, videos, and multimedia compilations.

*Please note, the website may invite you to try their “new” search but it will only include image files; NOT music, videos, or multimedia compilations.
