#TechTipTuesday – Embedded Content in Hyperdocs
Every Tuesday I share a Tech Tip on our social media pages to assist our staff in their use of technology as it relates to their role.
Online navigation, while ripe with possibility, does open up a unique set of challenges:
- incorrect links due to typos
- tabs opened/closed accidently
- uncertainty on if you opened the correct resource
- clicking on ads, third party links, etc within the resource
Whether I am working with students or with staff as part of a PD session my goal is to make navigation as easy as possible. My personal belief is that, “the more steps you add in the more chances there are to lose someone”. One feature you can use to include multiple resources in one location is embedded content hyperdocs.
Hyperdocs have been around for quite some time; these are documents that include instructions and direct links to various online resources to explore. Traditional hyperdocs fall prey to the challenges I listed above as each unique link will send participants to a new online location. The “hyperdoc 2.0” now sees those direct links auto-convert to embedded content directly within the document itself. While there are still resources that cannot be embedded, by having the option to only include embedded content allows you to reduce the chances of user-error until participants are more comfortable with the platform and feel confident to navigate multiple external sources.
Check out the video below for a full tutorial on how to embed content into a word document as well as an overview of what types of resources can be embedded:
