Mantra Monday
Every Monday I share a different ed tech quote on our Thompson Classroom social media pages for our staff to consider.
This week’s Mantra is:
This quote was shared during a recent #ISTE20 presentation, Maintaining Quality in Online Learning, by Mike Agostinelli. While feedback is essential for learners at all times, the switch to remote or online delivery requires even more focus on this area. Mike shared that, in his context, educators are tasked with ensuring that all learners receive timely, personalized feedback that is focused on both addressing current status as well as indicating next steps. For them, teachers work on providing feedback to students a minimum of twice a week (although he shared that some do this daily).
While face-to-face I think many educators would admit that they don’t sit down and work on assessments every day. But they fail to recognize the multiple instances where we provide feedback every day with students; including verbal, body language, etc. These types of cues are lost or unavailable in a distance/online environment so it makes sense that we know have to schedule time to provide this information to learners in a different way. As we transition to remote learning it is important to sit down and build in purposeful time to provide timely feedback to learners.
