Clever Badges

Clever Badges

Clever Badges have been implemented as of September 2020 for all MVSD students K-3.  These paper badges feature a QR code with the student’s name and, when displayed in front of the webcam of a divisional computer, initiate an automatic login into the device for that student!

Check out this video from our IGTV below for more details and a demo of these badges in action!

Why Clever Badges?

We’ve heard from many of our elementary staff that helping facilitate a full class of K-3 logins can be time consuming.  As we introduce the Covid-19 Shared Device health recommendations, we recognize that this will take even more instructional time away from students.  As a result, Clever Badges have been implemented to:

  • Speed up device access for K-3 students
    • Students do not need to remember and input their user name and password to access our devices
    • Classroom teachers, or EAs, could facilitate all student logins while students are washing their hands in preparation of device use
  • Model appropriate privacy and security protocols for online data
    • Previous models saw many K-3 students have the same password for an entire class
    • Students now have an individual QR code that is unique to them

*We recognize that Clever Badges may be a beneficial tool for specific students outside of the K-3 grade range.  If a teacher who like to see additional students added into this system we have invited them to contact our Coordinator of Student Services to discuss how this tool can help meet their programming goals.

I’d like to send a big THANK YOU to Prairie Spirit School Division for introducing this resource to me during a MAETL meeting in February.
