iPad Refresh Project

iPad Refresh Project

One BIG project that our ICT Team has been working on this year has been a refresh of our divisional iPads.  We currently have almost 800 tablets across our 16 buildings with a further inventory devoted specifically to our Student Service program (although these devices are managed differently).  These iPads had been introduced to the division over a variety of years and the models, and how they were managed in the schools, represent the different people who served in this position prior to me.  This high level of variability was resulting in some management concerns and our ICT Team are wanting to work towards an organized and consistent experience for all users.

On a technician side, we have moved over all of our devices to a MDM which will help to ensure:
– higher security controls
– consistent layout/function across all tablets
– quicker updates
– less technician hours on maintenance

On the ed side, I have worked with our divisional team (myself, Coordinator of Curriculum/Assessment, Coordinator of Student Services, school literacy/numeracy coaches, divisional clinicians, etc) to help select apps that are:
– age/subject appropriate
– aligned with MB curriculum
– elevate student learning and encourage deep thinking

You can learn more about this project here:

After much trial and error on the technician side and many research hours on the ed side we are very excited to be moving forward with this program by piloting it in two of our smaller schools.  We can’t wait to see how this works and are looking for feedback from our teaching staff.

I'd love to hear your thoughts; please leave a comment!
