Newbies Blog Hop

Newbies Blog Hop

If you haven’t heard yet I am midly ridiculously obsessed with teaching blogs! After blog stocking for a few months I decided to begin my own and Miss L’ Whole Brain Teaching blog was born! Six months after that I was offered a position with Whole Brain Teaching as an Official WBT Blog Bug and my blog obsession was launched even further.

I LOVE how education blogs offer endless learning opportunities for teachers and their students. I can’t even imagine how teacher’s did all of this before the internet, I’d be lost! In the spirit of things I am linking up with Janis’ Newbie Blog Hop over at Grade Three is the Place for Me!

1 ) What state province are you in?
– I live in a small rural community in Manitoba, Canada

2 ) Your current teaching position:
– I am currently a student teacher going into my LAST year of education before becoming certified!

3 ) Your teaching experience:
– A have completed student teaching placements in a Grade 9-12 Social Studies classroom as well as a Grade 5 classroom. I have also substitute taught in pretty much every grade from K-12!

4 ) When you started blogging:
– I started blogging at the beginning of January of 2012 and haven’t turned back since!

5 ) Share a blogging tip/blogging resource:
– To help search engines and then followers to find your blog make sure you properly label the photos in your posts.

Click on the photo and select “Properties”
Label your photos with an appropriate description:
– “Title Text” is the text that will appear when a mouse scrolls over the photo in your published post
– “Alt Text” is other descriptive labels that can help search engines find your work but will NOT show up when a mouse scrolls over the photo
When published your “Title Text” should show up when a mouse scrolls over the photo.
Your material is now more easily found through search engines!

Thanks for hosting this amazing blog hop Janis!

    1. Your welcome Kate! I was notified of this trick through a good blogging friend over at one of my PLNs, We Teach . It has helped me a lot and I knew I had to pass it along

  2. I'm glad you joined my first blog hop! And thank you for the tip! I didn't know how or why to label photos. Now I do. I'm also excited to be your latest follower since I'm so interested in WBT. Seeing everyone blog about it has motivated me to check it out! Have you done the Super Speed math or reading? It looks really great, but I'd love to hear feedback from a real teacher. 🙂

  8. Hi Miss L.
Thanks for the photo tip. I'm going to go back and label all my photos! I'm curious about the whole brain teaching. Does it have anything to do with Eric Jensen's work on brain based teaching. I've read several of his books and really enjoyed them. I've implemented many of his strategies in my kindergarten class. I look forward to following you. Please feel free to stop by my blog and say "hi"…marshallkindergarten.blogspot.com.

  9. I've given you 2 awards. stop by: tales-of-a-first-grade-teacher.blogspot.com/2012/07/awards-and-giveaway.html to pick them up. Whole Brain Teaching is something I just stumbled across after teaching for 14 years. I have been stalking that site like crazy, I can't wait to try out, class-yes, teach-ok and mirror and the rules. I use hand motions all the time!
I am your newest follower. Don't forget to enter my giveaway, after you pick up your award.

  10. I found you through the newbie blog hop and am now your newest follower. You mentioned this is your last year student teaching. How long do you student teach in Canada before certification?

    1. Hi TeacherinTraining! Thank you for following 🙂 In Manitoba, Canada, before you enter your Bachelor of Education you must have an undergraduate degree in a teachable subject. I have a 4-year Bachelor of Arts with a major in history and a double minor in geography and geology. You can then apply into the Education faculty which is a 2-year degree. We student teach 13 weeks in our first year, spread out into two 5 and 8 week chunks and 14 weeks in our second year (the year I am going into), spread out into three 1, 5 and 8 week chunks. After that it is exams and certification!

  11. Welcome Carrie! I am so glad to hear from another WBT enthusiast. Thank you so much for not only following but for the awards! This is awesome. I am heading over right now 🙂
